Maintenance

Oiling the shafts

Linear ball bearings are used on the X and Y axes. These have rubber seals which prevent dust and dirt from entering the ball bearing mechanism. Depending on the particular bearing, the seal can sometimes be a close fit on the shaft. To ensure free movement of the shaft in the bearing, the shafts are lightly oiled before shipping. Over time, it may be necessary to re-oil the shafts.

Use a light lubricating oil such as "3-in-1" or sewing machine oil. Put one drop on a fingertip and rub it along the entire length of the shaft until the carriage moves freely. Only a very small amount is needed.

The pen slide shafts should NOT be lubricated.
